The Carolina Hurricanes scored twice on power plays in a 5-2 victory against Philadelphia that eliminated the Flyers from playoff contention on Saturday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C.

Teuvo Teravainen, Dougie Hamilton, Justin Faulk, Jaccob Slavin and Brock McGinn scored for Carolina, which strengthened its hold on one of the Eastern Conference's wild cards.

The Hurricanes scored two goals in a 21-second span in the first period to wipe out a one-goal deficit and later added two empty-net goals.

Teravainen's power-play tally tied the game in the first period. That was the first power-play goal for Carolina in 10 games. Faulk's goal with 8:03 remaining in the game also came with a man advantage, supplying a 3-1 lead.

Teravainen also notched an assist.

Hurricanes goalie Petr Mrazek made 30 saves. He faced 17 third-period shots, stopping all except one.

Claude Giroux and Oskar Lindblom scored for the Flyers, who couldn't afford another loss and needed significant help if they were going to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs. Now, that possibility has been dashed.

James van Riemsdyk provided two assists for Philadelphia, which went on a power play with 3 1/2 minutes left. The Flyers chose to pull goalie Cam Talbot as well, but it backfired when Slavin scored into an empty net.

Mrazek had some sloppy moments with pucks left uncovered, but he also was clutch in several situations when Carolina was clinging to the lead.

Talbot was credited with 27 saves.

Giroux opened the scoring, converting off a 2-on-1 for his 21st goal of the season.

Teravainen's tying goal at the 13:35 mark was his 20th, giving the Hurricanes four 20-goal scorers for the first time in nine years.

Just 21 seconds later, Hamilton picked up his 16th goal.

Faulk's goal appeared to put Carolina in good shape until the Flyers went on the power play and Lindblom scored his 14th of the season with 6:48 remaining.
