Jimmy Garoppolo threw two short touchdown passes and the San Francisco 49ers used ball control and a stingy defense to post a 30-10 win over the host Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon.
Garoppolo connected with Brandon Aiyuk for a 6-yard touchdown in the second quarter and tight end George Kittle on a 1-yard score in the third. The touchdown passes helped the 49ers (5-5) cap an important seven-day stretch with a second consecutive win.
Much as they had done Monday night in a clock-draining, 31-10 home win over the Los Angeles Rams, the 49ers ran up a 38:22-21:38 time of possession dominance over the Jaguars (2-8).
Deebo Samuel, more productive as a running back than a receiver, ran for a 25-yard touchdown and Robbie Gould drilled field goals from 20, 48 and 45 yards.
The 49ers enjoyed a 333-200 edge in total yards en route to recording the third win in their last four games after a 2-4 start.
Matthew Wright's 30-yard field goal late in the first half was Jacksonville's only score until James Robinson plunged in from 1 yard out for the game's final points with 3:04 to go.
Garoppolo completed 16 of 22 passes for 176 yards and the two scores without an interception. Aiyuk was his chief target with seven receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Samuel turned eight carries into a game-high 79 rushing yards, while Jeff Wilson Jr. added 50 and Trey Sermon 32, helping San Francisco run up 171 rushing yards on 42 attempts.
In losing its second straight, Jacksonville rushed just 16 times for 54 yards.
Trevor Lawrence was sacked three times, twice by Nick Bosa, on a 16-for-25, 158-yard day. He had neither a TD pass nor an interception.
Laviska Shenault Jr. caught a team-high five passes for 50 yards for Jacksonville.
Gould's 20-yard field goal was the only scoring of the first quarter before the 49ers took control on Samuel's TD run and Garoppolo's hook-up with Aiyuk for a 17-0 lead in the second quarter.
It was 20-3 at halftime, after which Kittle's TD catch in the third period and Gould's 45-yard field goal in the fourth blew the game wide open at 30-3.
