Keith Duncan drilled the game-winning field goal from 48 yards out with one second left to lift No. 17 Iowa to a 27-24 win at Nebraska on Friday.

Ihmir Smith-Marsette scored two touchdowns, one on a kickoff return, to help propel the Hawkeyes to the Big Ten victory.

Iowa (9-3, 6-3 Big Ten) finished with nine wins during the regular season for a second straight year and likely clinched a New Year's Day bowl game.

On the other side, Nebraska (5-7, 3-6) failed to gain bowl-eligibility in Scott Frost's second year as head coach.

Taking over on its own 26-yard line with 32 seconds left, Iowa drove the field and got into field-goal range on a 22-yard pass from Nate Stanley to tight end Sam LaPorta down to the Nebraska 30-yard line.

After spiking the ball, Duncan came on for his game-winner.

Iowa took a 7-0 lead with 11:04 left in the first quarter on a 45-yard touchdown run by Smith-Marsette.

Following a 41-yard field goal by Nebraska's Matt Waldoch, Iowa took a 14-3 lead with 3:08 left in the first on a 55-yard touchdown run by Tyler Goodson.

Iowa took a 17-3 lead with 11:37 left in the second quarter on a 49-yard field goal by Duncan, but Nebraska closed within 17-10 with 8:54 left until halftime on a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown by Cam Taylor-Britt.

It didn't take long for Iowa to regain a two-touchdown lead, as Smith-Marsette ran the ensuing kickoff back 95 yards for a touchdown to make it 24-10.

But the third quarter belonged to Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers cut Iowa's lead to 24-17 with 8:24 left in the third on a 39-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Luke McCaffrey to JD Spielman.

Nebraska then tied the game at 24-24 with 32 seconds left in the third on a 9-yard touchdown run by Wyatt Mazour.
