No. 4 Georgia is headed back to the SEC Championship for the third straight year after bouncing No. 12 Auburn with a 21-14 road win on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The Bulldogs (9-1, 6-1 SEC) will now await the winner of the West, which will be No. 1 LSU if it beats Arkansas next week.
But the Tigers (7-3, 4-3) made Georgia sweat.
Auburn trailed 21-0 heading into the fourth, but roared back with a pair of scores and were driving for the tying touchdown until a fourth-down pass from Bo Nix sailed through the arms of Harold Joiner to give the football back to Georgia with 2:24 to play.
The Tigers, however, would get one more crack, forcing a quick three-and-out before taking over with 2:03 left and no timeouts.
This time, however, Georgia's defense would rise to the occasion, with Quay Walker sacking Nix on fourth down to send the Bulldogs to Atlanta.
Earlier, the Tigers had cut the lead to 21-7 on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Nix to Eli Stove with just over 10 minutes left, and roared back on its next possession. Again, it was Nix, this time scoring from 2 yards out. It was the first rushing touchdown allowed by Georgia this year.
Georgia made the score 21-0 on a 5-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds left in the third quarter to tight end Eli Wolf from Jake Fromm, who only completed 13 of 28 passes for 110 yards, but accounted for all three Bulldogs scores with a trio of scoring passes.
The Bulldogs got on the board first when Fromm connected with freshman Dominick Blaylock on a 51-yard touchdown pass midway through the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.
That would be the only offense for a while.
The two teams combined for 11 punts in the first half before the Bulldogs finally scored again with 20 seconds to go in the half when Fromm found Brian Herrien for a 5-yard touchdown making the halftime score 14-0.
Neither team produced much from an offensive perspective.
