No. 8 Gonzaga 63, Cal Poly 50: Kevin Pangos and Przemek Karnowski both scored 16 points and the Bulldogs held off the stubborn Mustangs at Seattle.
Pangos hit three 3-pointers in the second half for Gonzaga (11-1), which has won all four games by double digits since suffering its lone loss to Arizona in overtime. Karnowski added eight rebounds and Kyle Wiltjer and Byron Wesley both scored eight points for the Bulldogs, who tied their season low total for points.
David Nwaba hit 10-of-16 shots from the field to finish with a season-high 21 points for Cal Poly (5-5), which had its two-game winning streak snapped. Nwaba also had five rebounds and four steals and Brian Bennett added nine points for the Mustangs.
The Bulldogs finished the first half on an 11-3 run to take a 28-20 lead into the break. Nwaba had a dozen points for the Mustangs in the first half but the junior guard was the lone Mustangs' starter to score before intermission.
Cal Poly closed the gap to 38-34 early in the second half but Pangos stopped the Mustangs' run with his fourth 3-pointer of the game. Cal Poly never got closer than seven points the rest of the way and the Bulldogs put the game away by finishing 16-for-20 from the free-throw line.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Bulldogs have won their past four games in Seattle. ...It was the first time that Cal Poly had played a ranked team since it lost to Wichita State 64-37 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. ...Gonzaga begins league play next game against West Coast Conference challenger BYU.
