Moses Wright, Jose Alvarado and Michael Devoe combined for 63 of Georgia Tech's points during a 76-65 upset win over No. 16 Florida State in Atlantic Coast Conference play on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.
Wright finished with 23 points and six of Georgia Tech's 13 steals as the Yellow Jackets (8-5, 4-3 ACC) managed to close out a win against a conference frontrunner after coming up short in their two previous games.
Alvarado, Georgia Tech's leading scorer, scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half to surpass the 20-point mark for the third consecutive game -- just as he did in two frustrating losses by seven points or fewer to Virginia and Duke. Alvarado, who was held to only seven points in the team's first meeting on Dec. 16, also recorded six assists and five steals.
Devoe finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists as Georgia Tech beat Florida State (10-3, 6-2) for the first time since Jan. 25, 2017.
Their efforts stymied Florida State's high-powered offense and snapped its five-game winning streak.
The Seminoles, who were playing only their third road game this season and first of a four-game stretch away from Tallahassee, committed 20 turnovers and shot 24-for-56 from the field (42.9 percent), 3-for-14 from 3-point range (21.4 percent) and 14-for-23 (60.9 percent) from the free-throw line. Florida State entered the game averaging 79.3 points per game and shooting 47.6 percent from the field.
Despite shooting 2-for-12 from 3-point range over the game's first 20 minutes, the Yellow Jackets finished the half on a 11-1 run to take the lead for good.
RaiQuan Gray finished with a team-high 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting to lead the Seminoles.
But multiple Florida State players ended up in foul trouble early limiting their production.
M.J. Walker, Florida State's leading scorer, fouled out with 6:57 left and finished with eight points after taking only five shots (3-for-5).
Balsa Koprivica picked up his fourth foul with 11:45 left and finished with six points and six rebounds. And while Florida State's bench scored 22 points, Malik Osborne went 0-for-6 from the field, picked up four fouls and finished with one point.
Georgia Tech shot 43.9 percent (25 of 57) from the field, including 29.2 percent (7 of 24) from behind the arc.
