P.J. Horne hit two late 3-pointers, as the Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the Pittsburgh Panthers, 67-57, on Saturday in Blacksburg, Va.

Virginia Tech (15-10, 6-8 ACC) built a 19-point lead midway through the second half and held off a late charge by Pittsburgh (15-11, 6-9) to snap a five-game losing streak. Horne scored 18 points to lead the Hokies.

Pittsburgh led 13-10 with 12:34 left in the first half. Virginia Tech then uncorked a 13-1 run in the next 4:21 for a 23-14 lead with 8:23 remaining before halftime. Virginia Tech maintained a nine-point lead for the rest of the half, taking a 32-23 advantage to the intermission.

In the second half, Virginia Tech pushed that nine-point lead to 19 at 44-25 with a 10-0 run in a span of two minutes and 45 seconds. Virginia Tech's Jalen Cone, who hit four of his first five 3-pointers in this game, made a 3-pointer to finish the run for the Hokies.

Virginia Tech still led by 19 at 51-32 with 12:58 remaining in regulation. Pittsburgh reeled off nine straight points to cut the deficit to 51-41 with 9:45 left. The Hokies built their lead back to 15 at 56-41 with 8:35 to go, but the Panthers responded with an 8-0 burst to pull within seven at 56-49 with about seven minutes left.

Virginia Tech then limited Pittsburgh to eight points over the final seven minutes, as Pittsburgh never got closer than six points, at 59-53, with 3:21 remaining. Horne then hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, one with 3:06 on the clock and one with 2:40 left, to preserve a working margin for the Hokies.

Virginia Tech limited Pittsburgh to 35 percent shooting from the field, at 21 of 60. Pittsburgh made just 5 of 21 3-pointers and only 10 of 18 foul shots.

Jalen Cone scored 12 points for the Hokies.

Justin Champagnie and Audiese Tony scored 12 points apiece for the Panthers.
