Tre Jones and Jordan Goldwire each scored 13 points as No. 7 Duke fought off No. 8 Florida State for a 70-65 victory in Monday night's showdown at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Duke (21-3, 11-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) moved within one game of first-place Louisville. Florida State (20-4, 10-3) was aiming for an 11-2 start in ACC play for the first time.

Matthew Hurt added 12 points and Vernon Carey Jr. had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Duke, which was coming off the improbable comeback for an overtime victory two nights earlier at rival North Carolina.

Trent Forrest tallied 18 points, Malik Osborne registered 14 points and Devin Vassell had 11 points for the Seminoles, who shot 3-for-18 on 3-pointers after starting 1-for-11.

Wendell Moore Jr.'s reverse layup off a fast break put Duke ahead 61-57 with slightly more than four minutes to play.

Trailing 64-61, Florida State missed two shots with just under a minute remaining. Javin DeLaurier sank both ends of a 1-and-1 for Duke before Osborne's putback dunk kept the Seminoles in the game at the 45.4-second mark.

Duke then missed two shots, but Hurt rebounded the second one and drilled two free throws on a 1-and-1 with 11.7 seconds to go.

Duke benefited from two Goldwire 3-pointers earlier in the second half. The game appeared to settle into a defensive tussle until the teams combined for 13 points in a span of just over one minute as Duke went up 58-57.

Duke built a 10-point first-half lead but led only 33-32 at halftime in the only scheduled meeting of the season. The Blue Devils committed 11 turnovers in the first half.

Duke took an 11-2 lead and had a 19-11 edge after two Hurt 3-pointers.

Duke now leads the series 41-10. Until this game, Duke had played only one ranked team in the past two months.

This was a rematch of the 2019 ACC Tournament final won by Duke.
