Kendal Manuel scored 17 points to help Oregon State pull away for a 69-50 victory over Kent State on Wednesday night at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore.
Jaquori McLaughlin had 14 points and eight assists for Oregon State (4-9). Drew Eubanks finished with 13 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots. Stephen Thompson Jr. posted 11 points, 10 rebounds and four steals.
Jimmy Hall had 14 points and 19 rebounds for Kent State (7-5). Deon Edwin scored 12 points, Desmond Ridenour contributed 11, and Jaylin Walker had 10.
Both teams went scoreless for more than two minutes until Walker put Kent State on the board. Oregon State mounted an 8-0 run to take the lead, but the Golden Flashes went back on top on a jumper by Hall.
The teams continued to trade leads throughout the first half. Oregon State went up 19-17 on a 3-pointer by Manuel. Kent State took a 26-24 lead on a layup by Ridenour, but the Beavers led 27-26 at the break after McLaughlin made a 3-pointer with one second remaining.
Oregon State went up by six on a layup by Eubanks early in the second half. The Beavers led 39-34 following a three-point play by Thompson, but the Golden Flashes battled back to take a 40-39 lead on a dunk by Edwin.
Oregon State responded with a decisive run to pull away. The Beavers outscored the Golden Flashes 26-3 over a span of about eight minutes to take a 65-43 lead on a three-point play by Manuel.
Oregon State shot 54.3 percent from the field and made 8 of 15 from 3-point range. Kent State shot just 27.6 percent and went an abysmal 1 of 24 from beyond the arc. The Beavers overcame 24 turnovers and a 49-39 rebounding disparity.
