Junior forward Yante Maten scored 30 points, and Georgia notched its 500th win at Stegeman Coliseum with an 84-64 victory over Charleston Southern on Saturday in Athens, Ga.
Senior guard J.J. Frazier added 14 points and five assists for the Bulldogs (7-3), who have won four of five. Eleven players scored for Georgia, which had 22 assists on 28 field goals.
Freshman guard Christian Keeling scored 19 points, and junior guard Cortez Mitchell added 15 points for the Buccaneers (5-6), who have dropped two straight and four of five overall.
The Bulldogs went through a four-minute scoring drought in the second half, but Charleston Southern couldn't take advantage.
Junior forward Pape Diatta hit a 3-pointer that pushed Georgia's lead to 20 with 9:36 left in the game. The Bulldogs cruised from there and were never seriously challenged.
Gerogia is 6-1 at home this season.
The Bulldogs took control early, opening in the game with a 23-7 run.
Maten had 19 points in the first half, including a layup off an assist from Jordan Harris that put the Bulldogs up 28-13 with seven minutes left in the first half.
Georgia took a 46-30 lead into intermission.
Maten has scored in double figures every game this season and spurred a dominating advantage for the Bulldogs on the boards. Georgia outrebounded Charleston Southern 41-23.
The Bulldogs travel to Atlanta to take on rival Georgia Tech on Tuesday, and open SEC play at Auburn on Dec. 29.
Charleston Southern will try to bounce back at Virginia Tech on Tuesday and opens Big South play against Winthrop on Dec. 29.
