LSU 82, Massachusetts 60: Josh Gray scored a season-high 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting as the host Tigers posted a comfortable win over the Minutemen.
Jordan Mickey, the leading scorer and rebounder for LSU (5-2), returned after a one-game absence due to an ankle injury and recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tim Quarterman notched 15 points and Jarell Martin added 12 for the Tigers, who blocked 10 shots - five by Mickey - and dominated the boards, 41-32.
Cady Lalanne paced the Minutemen (5-3) with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Three other players scored in double figures for Massachusetts, including Maxie Esho, who provided 14 points and seven boards.
Behind 14 points from Gray and 10 from Martin, the Tigers cruised into halftime with a 44-32 lead. LSU scored the game's first eight points and later used a 17-2 run to break open a 24-24 game and take command for good.
The Minutemen scored six of the first eight points of the second half, but Gray's layup and Mickey's three-point play sparked an 11-4 run as the Tigers stemmed the tide. Lalanne recorded a pair of three-point plays to get UMass back within 65-55 with just under seven minutes left before Gray scored the next six LSU points to restore a 15-point lead.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Martin went 0-for-2 from 3-point range and is now 1-of-17 on the season. ... Gray's previous season high was 18 points against Gardner-Webb in the season opener. His career high is 26 points against Oklahoma when he was with Texas Tech two seasons ago. ... Gray added five assists, four rebounds and three steals but also committed seven of LSU's 19 turnovers.
