No. 5 Villanova 88, Xavier 75: Five Villanova players scored in double figures, led by Ryan Arcidiacono's 18 points, as the Wildcats dismissed the visiting Musketeers in Big East action.
Dylan Ennis had 17 points, Josh Hart added 15 off the bench and JayVaughn Pinkston chipped in 12 as Villanova (16-1, 4-1) made 15-of-34 3-pointers. Ennis was 5-of-8 from long range, while Arcidiacono was 4-of-8 and Hart was 3-of-4.
Matt Stainbrook totaled 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting while Jalen Reynolds and J.P. Macura each notched 14 points for Xavier (11-6, 2-3). Dee Davis posted nine points and nine assists, but the Musketeers still lost for the third time in four games.
Villanova took control in the first half, surging to a 45-27 halftime advantage behind 9-of-18 3-point shooting, compared to 2-of-10 for Xavier. The Wildcats' starters staked the hosts to an 11-2 lead before Hart came off the bench and scored 12 points in eight minutes.
A 9-0 run by Villanova early in the second half pushed the advantage to 59-36. Xavier eventually got the deficit down to 13 and later whittled it to 10, but each time Arcidiacono answered with a 3-pointer to halt the Musketeers' momentum.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Villanova had 14 assists on 16 baskets in the first half and finished with 24 assists on 28 buckets. … Pinkston scored in double figures for the first time in four games. ... Darrun Hilliard II chipped in 10 points and six assists for the Wildcats.
