Boston College 70, UMass Lowell 47: Aaron Brown scored a season-high 22 points, making 4-of-5 from 3-point range, as the Eagles pulled away in the second half to beat the visiting River Hawks.

Dennis Clifford matched his career high with 19 points while making 9-of-11 from the free-throw line as Boston College (7-4) won the fifth time in six games. Olivier Hanlan had 10 points and Patrick Heckmann dished out six assists for the Eagles, who forced 22 turnovers and shot 55.6 percent from the field.

Jahad Thomas led the way with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting for UMass Lowell (6-6), which lost its fourth consecutive contest after winning six in a row. Chad Holley and DJ Mlachnik each scored nine for the River Hawks in their first meeting with Boston College.

The Eagles made their first seven shots from the field and built a 19-4 lead out of the gate as Brown scored seven. Thomas scored nine in the first half as UMass Lowell battled back within two before Boston College scored the final five points of the first half at the free-throw line for a 29-22 lead.

Brown drained three 3-pointers and added a dunk in the first four minutes of the second half as the Eagles put together a 15-4 burst to push the lead to 18. The River Hawks could not get closer than 15 the rest of the way and Boston College pushed its lead as high as 27 late in the contest.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Brown has averaged 18.7 points over the last six games since shooting 2-of-10 and scoring six in a loss to Dayton on Nov. 23. … UMass Lowell coach Pat Duquette was an assistant at Boston College from 1997-2010. … Boston College, which opens ACC play at No. 2 Duke on Saturday, came in shooting 26.6 percent from behind the 3-point arc before making 7-of-12 on Monday.
