Indiana 82, No. 25 Butler 73: Troy Williams scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Hoosiers handed the Bulldogs their first loss in the Crossroads Classic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Yogi Ferrell had 20 points, including three 3-pointers, and Hanner Mosquera-Perea produced eight points, nine rebounds and four blocks for Indiana (9-2), which collected 48 rebounds. Nick Zeisloft added seven points for the Hoosiers, who avenged an overtime loss to Butler in 2012.
Kellen Dunham notched 23 points, including 9-of-9 on free throws, for Butler (8-3), which had been 3-0 in the Crossroads Classic. Andrew Chrabascz supplied 14 points and five rebounds and Kameron Woods and Roosevelt Jones combined for 21 points and 20 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
After a back and forth opening 10 minutes, the Hoosiers put together the first run and gained a 37-27 lead on a tip-in by Mosquera-Perea. Butler countered with an 11-1 run to close the first half, including nine of Dunham's 18 points, to forge a 38-38 tie at the break.
Dunham's layup put Butler up 57-52 with 11:30 left, but Ferrell scored seven points and James Blackmon, Jr. had a three-point play to put Indiana ahead 66-61 with eight minutes left. The Hoosiers maintained an advantage, which was just one point with six minutes left, right to the buzzer as Ferrell scored the team's final seven points, including four free throws.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Blackmon was limited to two points on 1-of-8 shooting in the first half and finished with five points and eight rebounds. ... Butler made just 3-of-16 from beyond the arc, while the Hoosiers drained 8-of-17. ... Butler had won seven straight at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
