Creighton 75, Texas-Pan American 60: Austin Chatman scored 20 points as the host Bluejays got off to a fast start and cruised past the Broncs.

Freshman Toby Hegner contributed 16 points for Creighton (9-3), which has won 85 straight home games against teams that enter .500 or worse. Avery Dingman added 11 points, six boards and six assists as the Bluejays won the rebounding battle 46-24 and recorded assists on 20 of their 30 field goals.

Shaquille Hines tallied 16 points and seven boards for Texas-Pan American (5-6), which has dropped six of eight since opening the season with three straight victories. Everett Osborne scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half while Janari Joesaar – the country’s 17th-leading scorer entering Friday’s action at 20.4 points – finished with 12.

Creighton scored the first seven points and never trailed, increasing the margin to 21-7 less than nine minutes into the contest on a jumper by Chatman. Texas-Pan American was able to close within nine points with 7:50 to go in the first half following four straight points from Joesaar, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Dingman and Chatman near the end of an 11-4 spurt ensured the Bluejays’ lead would not fall below double figures again.

A triple from Hegner gave Creighton the first of three 17-point leads early in the second half before six straight points by Osborne trimmed the Broncs’ deficit to 11 with just over 12 minutes remaining. Joesaar nailed a 3-pointer to cap one last flurry as Texas-Pan American pulled within 61-51 with 6:18 to go, but a three-point play by the Bluejays’ Will Artino on the other end sparked a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Friday marked the first game Creighton played without G James Milliken, who was suspended indefinitely due to an undisclosed violation of team rules earlier in the week. … Texas-Pan American, which will remain in Nebraska over the weekend to face Omaha on Sunday, has dropped their last five true road games by an average of 20.2 points. … The Bluejays shot 56.7 percent in the first half and outrebounded the Broncs 25-7 in the opening 20 minutes.
