No. 10 Wichita State 81, St. Louis 52: Ron Baker went 6-of-7 from the field with 18 points and three 3-pointers as the host Shockers pummeled the Billikens.
Evan Wessel had a career-high 15 points with three 3-pointers, Tekele Cotton added seven points with seven assists and Fred VanVleet chipped in eight points for Wichita State (5-1). Rauno Nurger led the bench with 15 points and Rashard Kelly grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
Marcus Bartley paced St. Louis (5-3) with 13 points off the bench and Miles Reynolds contributed six while going 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Austin Gillmann had nine points with four boards and Brett Jolly had seven points.
The Billikens kept it within single digits for the first nine minutes until Wichita State pulled away on a 19-4 run over the next 7:21. Wessel poured in 11 points with three 3-pointers before the break as the Shockers cruised to a 45-25 advantage at intermission.
The rout continued as Baker notched five points in 23 seconds with a pair of trips to the charity stripe and Wessel tacked on a quick four points before Cotton's dunk concluded the 13-0 spurt as the lead grew to 58-25. St. Louis rattled off a 10-3 run late to pull within 69-42, but the Billikens would get no closer than 24 points.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Shockers overcame a season-low 38.1 percent shooting in a 69-68 overtime loss to Utah on Tuesday with 53.8 percent against St. Louis. ... Wichita State held the rebounding advantage 41-20. ... The Billikens' bench outscored the starters 41-11.
