Texas A&M 72, Arizona State 71: Kourtney Roberson's free throw with 5.1 seconds remaining was the difference as the host Aggies erased a 13-point deficit to down the Sun Devils.
Alex Caruso led the way with a season-high 23 points to go along with six rebounds, six assists and six steals for Texas A&M (6-1), which shot 50.9 percent from the field. Jordan Green and Jalen Jones each added 13 points for the Aggies, who committed eight turnovers.
Tra Holder scored 14 points and dished out five assists off the bench for Arizona State (5-3), which shot 53.2 percent from the floor. Jonathan Gilling and Bo Barnes tallied 12 points apiece for the Sun Devils, who finished 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Holder scored five points during a 9-0 run to put Arizona State on top 28-18 and the Sun Devils led by as much as 13 in the first half before settling for a 45-34 advantage at intermission. Danuel House keyed an 8-0 spurt to pull Texas A&M within 54-49 before Holder converted a three-point play and Barnes nailed a triple to push the margin back to double-digits at 60-49.
The Aggies held the Sun Devils without a field goal for over five minutes and used a 12-0 surge during that span to pull ahead 63-62. Caruso's late layup gave Texas A&M a 71-69 lead before Holder sank two clutch free throws to even the score at 71, but Roberson kept his nerve from the foul line to hand the Aggies their fifth straight win.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas A&M went 7-of-16 from 3-point range while Arizona State finished 12-of-29. ... The Sun Devils' bench outscored the Aggies' reserves 38-12. … Texas A&M improved to 122-12 in non-conference home games since Reed Arena opened in 1998.
