No. 11 Gonzaga 94, Saint Joseph's 42: Gary Bell Jr. scored all of his game-high 18 points in the first half and the Bulldogs walloped the visiting Hawks in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off tournament.
Bell knocked down 5-of-7 shots from 3-point range helping Gonzaga (3-0) take a commanding 48-10 lead into the break on the way to its 28th straight win at home. Josh Perkins had 13 points off the bench and Byron Wesley added a dozen points for the Bulldogs, who put five players in double figures and shot 56.9 percent from the field in the game.
Aaron Brown led Saint Joseph's (1-2), which is 0-3 all-time against Gonzaga, with 14 points off the bench. James Demery added eight points and Chris Wilson scored seven for the Hawks.
The Zags were in control from the opening tip. They raced out to an 8-0 lead, made their first eight shots from the field, and held an 18-5 lead before Przemek Karnowski missed a short hook shot in the lane just over seven minutes into the game.
Meanwhile, Saint Joseph's missed 13 of its first 15 shots from the field and found itself in a 29-5 hole and never recovered. The Hawks made just 3-of-28 shots from the field in the first half and finished 25.9 percent from the floor.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Saint Joseph's scored just one field goal in the final 14:37 of the first half. ...Gonzaga's Domantas Sabonis grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds as the Bulldogs won the battle on the boards 54-26. ...Kevin Pangos had six points and six assists in limited action for Gonzaga.
