Boo Buie scored 23 points to lead Northwestern to a historic 80-60 win over Iowa in Big Ten play on Sunday in Evanston, Ill.

Buie shot 6 of 11 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range, and had eight assists and four rebounds for the Wildcats (20-7, 11-5 Big Ten), who tied a program record with their 11th league win in a season.

Ty Berry had 16 points for the Wildcats, who won 11 league contests for the first time since the 1930-31 season, when Northwestern claimed its only outright Big Ten title in school history.

Brooks Barnhizer chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds for Northwestern, which won its fifth straight game by knocking off the Hawkeyes for the first time in the teams' past 10 meetings.

The Wildcats, who never trailed and led by as many as 24 points in the second half, shot 27 of 55 (49.1 percent) from the field, including a sizzling 10 of 20 (50 percent) from 3-point range.

Iowa (17-10, 9-7), which lost for just the second time in its past seven games, was led by Kris Murray's 14 points and five rebounds. Tony Perkins added 11 points and five rebounds, while Filip Rebraca finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Hawkeyes shot 23 of 54 (42.6 percent) from the field, including a dreadful 3 of 24 (12.5 percent) from beyond the arc.

After Iowa trimmed Northwestern's 11-point halftime lead 47-40 with 13:47 remaining, the Wildcats countered with a 12-3 run to take a 59-43 advantage following Tydus Verhoeven's jumper with 8:02 to go.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffrey was given technical fouls -- one for being out of the coach's box and another for arguing with officials -- immediately after Verhoeven's dunk made it 61-46 with 7:30 left.

Northwestern controlled the first half and led by as many as 14 points before taking a 37-26 halftime advantage.
