Kris Murray had 27 points and eight rebounds to lead Iowa to a 93-84 overtime win over visiting Michigan in a Big Ten contest on Thursday in Iowa City.
Payton Sandfort had 26 points and seven rebounds, and Filip Rebraca had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Iowa (11-6, 3-3 Big Ten), which has won three straight.
Jett Howard scored 34 points for Michigan (9-7, 3-2).
Michigan held a 79-75 lead with 29.3 seconds left in regulation, but Sandfort made a 3-pointer and was fouled with 20.7 seconds remaining. Sandfort then sank the free throw to tie the game at 79.
Michigan had one last chance to win in regulation, but a runner in the lane by Dug McDaniel missed as time expired.
The overtime was all Iowa. The Hawkeyes scored the first eight points of the frame, five by Sandfort, to take an 87-79 lead with 2:32 remaining and never looked back.
Michigan took a 77-70 lead with 2:18 left after a 3-pointer by McDaniel and a putback by Hunter Dickinson.
Iowa answered, cutting Michigan's lead to 77-75 with 1:02 remaining after a basket by Rebraca and a 3-pointer by Sandfort. Kobe Bufkin hit a jumper for Michigan to make it a four-point advantage with 29.3 seconds remaining.
Howard and Murray were engaged in a one-on-one duel in the first half.
Howard made his first six shots, five of which were from 3-point range, and had 17 points before the game was even 10 minutes old.
Howard had 21 points at halftime on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. Murray also was hot, scoring 15 points before halftime on 6-of-11 shooting.
The Wolverines led by as many as six points in the first half before taking a 43-40 lead into the break.
Michigan shot 52.9 percent from the field (18 of 34) overall and made 7 of 13 shots from 3-point range in the first half. The Wolverines went on to shoot 49.3 percent (33 of 67) for the game despite the loss. Iowa finished 45.1 percent from the floor (32 of 71).
McDaniel and Dickinson each finished with 12 points for Michigan, with Dickinson collecting a game-high 13 rebounds. Josh Dix put up 10 points for Iowa.
