Keegan Murray poured in a career-high 37 points Sunday afternoon, his second straight game with at least 30 points, as Iowa steamrolled visiting Nebraska 98-75 in Iowa City, Iowa.
The Hawkeyes (17-7, 7-6, Big Ten) used two huge runs in the final 14-plus minutes of the first half to assume a 28-point advantage at halftime and never looked back. In winning its third successive conference game, Iowa sank 51 percent of its shots, scored 24 points off 15 Nebraska turnovers and outrebounded the visitors 41-35.
Iowa led by as many as 36 points after a jumper by Patrick McCaffrey with 13:59 remaining before Nebraska clawed back with a 20-3 spurt. The Cornhuskers (7-18, 1-13) were able to close to a 19-point deficit 77-59 as Kobe Webster nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to cap the run.
But that was as close as the Cornhuskers would get.
Murray, who was 15 of 21 from the floor, is averaging 23.3 points a game this season and has scored 30-plus points four times. Kris Murray and Payton Sandfort added 12 points each for Iowa and Jordan Bohannon had 10 points.
Derrick Walker scored 14 points to lead the Cornhuskers, with Bryce McGowens hitting for 11 and Eduardo Andre adding 10.
Nebraska, which beat Minnesota on Wednesday night, has lost 11 of its past 12 games and has lost a dozen straight road contests dating back to Feb. 14, 2021.
The Cornhuskers got off to a good start, forging a 15-11 lead after a three-point play by Alonzo Verge Jr. with 14:03 remaining play in the first half.
But that was where the game turned as the Hawkeyes scored 24 of the next 28 points over the ensuing seven minutes to take a 35-19 lead. Iowa continued to pour in on, ending the half on an 18-6 run and going to the break ahead 53-25.
