Sam Hauser scored a season-high 23 points and No. 14 Virginia beat Pittsburgh for the sixth straight time with a 73-66 victory Saturday in Atlantic Coast Conference action in Charlottesville, Va.

The Cavaliers (13-3, 9-1) improved to 8-0 at home this season. They shot 53.2 percent from the field, including 65 percent (13 of 20) in the second half. Virginia shot 50 percent (12 of 24) from 3-point range.

Tomas Woldetensae scored 14 points off the Virginia bench. Jay Huff added 13 points and eight rebounds and Kihei Clark had 11 points and eight assists.

Justin Champagnie posted his ninth double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers (9-6, 5-5), who have lost four of their past five games. Ithiel Horton added 15 points and Xavier Johnson 10.

The Cavaliers broke open a close contest with a 16-0 spurt to seize a 52-36 lead. Hauser and the 7-foot-1 Huff each knocked down a pair of 3-pointers during the run.

The Panthers sliced the deficit to single digits at 52-43 on Champagnie's layup with 10:41 to play, but Woldetensae answered with five straight points for Virginia.

The Cavaliers took their largest lead at 62-45 on a layup by Trey Murphy III with 7:22 remaining.

Pitt then took advantage of some uncharacteristically sloppy play by UVA. The Panthers pulled within 64-57 on Au'diese Toney's steal and layup with 2:43 left, but the Cavaliers kept them at arm's length the rest of the way.

Pitt finished with a 42-19 advantage in points in the paint and scored 17 points off 12 turnovers by Virginia, which entered the game leading the nation with only 8.8 turnovers per game.

Virginia led 30-27 after a first half that featured one tie and five lead changes. Hauser paced all players with nine points in the half.

Pitt was up 26-22 before the Cavs surged ahead via an 8-0 run, getting back-to-back 3-pointers from Woldetensae and a dunk by Murphy.
