John Petty Jr. scored 24 points and led a record 3-point barrage as No. 18 Alabama rolled past LSU 105-75 in a battle of the top two teams in the Southeastern Conference on Tuesday night in Baton Rouge, La.
Petty made eight of 10 3-point attempts as the Crimson Tide (12-3, 7-0 SEC) sank a conference-record 23 3-pointers in 43 attempts while winning their eighth consecutive game.
Joshua Primo and Jahvon Quinerly added 22 points each and Herbert Jones had 13 as Alabama continued its best start since 1987.
Freshman Cameron Thomas scored 21, Javonte Smart added 12 and Trendon Watford had 11 to lead the second-place Tigers (10-3, 5-2), who saw their four-game winning streak end. LSU made only 5 of 26 3-point attempts, including just 2 of 12 in the first half.
The Tide made 14 of 19 3-point tries in building a 28-point halftime lead.
They made it clear early in the second half that things weren't going to change much after intermission. Primo made two 3-pointers, then Jones and Petty made one each as Alabama took a 78-44 lead less than five minutes into the half.
The Tide took their biggest lead at 89-46 with just under 11 minutes remaining in regulation.
Petty, who became Alabama's career leader in 3-pointers during a victory against Arkansas on Saturday, demonstrated his long-range ability right away against the Tigers.
He provided his team's first four baskets, all on 3-pointers, and Primo made two 3-pointers as Alabama raced to an 18-4 lead.
Alex Reese's layup provided the first two-point basket and Petty added another 3-pointer to complete a 17-0 run that gave the Tide a 23-4 lead.
Thomas' jumper ended a three-minute scoring drought for LSU, but Jones responded with two free throws and a layup for a 27-6 lead.
Quinerly made two 3-pointers to help produce a 40-16 midway through the half.
Petty later made his seventh 3-pointer in seven attempts to push the lead to 48-22.
Smart hit the Tigers' first 3-pointer nearly 15 minutes into the game after the Tide had already made 12 in 16 attempts.
Primo sank back-to-back 3-pointers as Alabama increased the margin to 31 before taking a 60-32 lead at halftime.
