Kansas State raced to a 20-2 lead in the first 5:39 and coasted to an 86-41 victory over Alabama State on Wednesday night in Manhattan, Kan. Xavier Sneed, who scored 12 points in the early run, led the Wildcats with 20 points.

Kansas State, which had its 33-game nonconference home winning streak snapped in its last game against Marquette, scored its largest margin of victory of the season.

Antonio Gordon and DaJuan Gordon each added 13 points for the Wildcats. Cartier Diarra had eight points and 10 assists. Diarra has led the Wildcats in assists in all nine games.

K-State shot 62.5 percent from the field (35-of-56). The Wildcats were 12 of 22 from 3-point range and had a season-best 29 assists.

Alabama State (1-8) is on a season-opening 15-game road trip and won't play its first home game until Jan. 11. The Hornets were led by Kevin Holston and Tobi Ewuosho with nine points each.

After going to the locker room with a 52-16 lead, the Wildcats started the second half almost as hot, scoring 16 of the first 21 points. The Wildcats matched their season most in points at the 6:32 mark of the second half on a jumper by Diarra.

Kansas State led by 36 at halftime, only the third time this season it has led at the half. The Cats hit a season-best 10 of 15 from 3-point range. Sneed, who was 4-for-5 from long range in the first half, led the Wildcats with 16 points. Eight other players scored in the first half. The Wildcats also were hot from inside the arc as well. They were 10 of 13 from 2-point range.

The final total of 86 points was quite the turnaround for the Wildcats, who were averaging 65.3 points per game in their first eight games. They had shot 41.1 percent from the field, including 29.5 percent from 3-point range.

Defensively, the Wildcats shut down the Hornets, holding them to 30.4 percent shooting from the field.
