Breein Tyree scored a career-high 38 points to lead Ole Miss to an 84-70 win over visiting South Carolina on Wednesday night in Oxford, Miss.

The senior guard, who had only 17 points combined in losses last week against Auburn and LSU, was 12 of 21 from the field-including 3 of 5 from 3-point range-and 11 of 13 from the line to move into 10th place on the Rebels' career scoring list with 1,583 points.

Ole Miss (11-11, 2-7 SEC) won for just the second time in 10 games and won at home for the first time since Dec. 29 by holding South Carolina to 34.5 percent shooting in the first half and converting 14 Gamecocks turnovers into 20 points.

The Rebels used runs of 8-0 and 11-2 to build a 23-12 lead midway through the first half, extending to a 14-point edge on a Bryce Williams steal and dunk with 7:25 to go.

South Carolina (13-9, 5-4) cut a 43-32 halftime deficit to seven a little over two minutes into the second half but then went more than three minutes without scoring. That allowed Ole Miss to go on a 10-0 run to lead 53-36 with 14:59 remaining.

The Gamecocks got as close as 56-48 on a 3-pointer by Jermaine Cousinard, who had a career-high 28 and scored 10 straight South Carolina points during one stretch during the second half.

But Ole Miss scored the next seven and kept the double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

Maik Kotsar added 19 points and eight rebounds for South Carolina, which was without junior forward Justin Minaya, who missed the game because of a thumb injury. Minaya was averaging seven rebounds per game in SEC play, and in his absence the Gamecocks were outrebounded 39-29.
