Mississippi State guard Malik Newman scored 15 points, leading the Bulldogs past Tulane 69-59 Saturday at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Miss.
Newman led three Bulldogs (5-5) in double figures, helping Mississippi State bounce back from a two-game slide. Guard Craig Sword added 14 points, and forward Gavin Ware came off the bench to score 12 points and grab nine rebounds for Mississippi State.
Tulane took a 51-43 lead on a basket by forward Dylan Osetkowski with 13:22 to play. But Mississippi State rallied and retook the lead, 55-54, on a jumper by guard Quinndary Weatherspoon with eight minutes left.
Osetkowski led the Green Wave (6-6) with 20 points, and guard Malik Morgan added 11 points and 10 rebound.
Mississippi State led 40-34 at halftime, behind 13 points from Newman. Osetkowski had 10 in the first half to lead Tulane.
Mississippi State avenged a loss to Tulane last season and has now defeated the Green Wave in seven of the last eight meetings.
