Virginia Tech jumped out to a 28-3 early lead and coasted to an 80-45 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in college basketball on Saturday in Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia.
The Hokies (5-3) were up on the Lions (2-7) built their early 25-point lead less than 12 minutes into the game, led 37-16 at the halftime break.
Eventually, Virginia Tech's worked their way to a 65-35 lead with under eight minutes left in the game. The largest lead was 80-45 with under a minute left.
Five players scored in double figures for the Hokies, who did most of their damage from the free throw line. They shot only 43.5 percent from the field (21-of-49) but were 31-of-40 from the stripe.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff made 11-of-17 free throws.
Virginia Tech guard Jalen Hudson led all scorers with 15 points followed by guard/forward Chris Clarke with 12, forward Zach LeDay and guard Justin Bibbs with 13 each and guard Seth Allen with 11.
Guard Jaquan Lynch with 10 points was the only player in double figures for the Lions, who had only three field goals in the first half and finished the game shooting 30.6 from the field (15-of-49).
