Purdue 85, BYU 87 (OT): A.J. Hammons scored on a jump hook with 1.8 seconds left in overtime to lift the Boilermakers to the win in the fifth-place game at the Maui Invitational.

Vince Edwards scored 25 points on 7-for-9 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds and Rapheal Davis finished with 18 points for Purdue (5-1). Hammons had 12 points and four blocked shots and fellow 7-footer Isaac Haas also scored 12 for the Boilermakers.

Tyler Haws scored 32 points for BYU but missed a potential game-winning field goal at the end of regulation. Anson Winder matched his season high with 18 points off the bench and Kyle Collinsworth finished with nine points, eight assists and six steals for the Cougars (4-2).

Purdue took a four-point lead in overtime on a tip in by Jon Octeus with 2:13 left and Haws air-balled a 3-point attempt that would have given the Cougars a one-point lead with 1:15 on the clock. The teams then traded turnovers before Collinsworth made two free throws with 14 seconds remaining, leading to Hammons’ final shot.

BYU’s two starting forwards, 6-10 Luke Worthington and 6-11 Nate Austin, fouled out in the final minutes of regulation. Hammons had a chance to give Purdue a one-point lead with 47 seconds left but missed the second of two free throws and Haws was short on a pull-up jumper from the baseline as time expired, sending the Cougars to their second overtime of the tournament.

GAME NOTEBOOK: BYU, who came in shooting 42.7 percent from 3-point range, were 7-for-21 from beyond the arc. … The Cougars came in leading the nation in scoring at 99 points per game, while the Boilermakers entered 27th in scoring defense at 55.2 . … BYU G Chase Fischer, who tied a tournament record and broke the school record by making 10 3-pointers in a win against tournament host Chaminade on Tuesday, finished 2-for-11 from beyond the arc against Purdue.
