UCF 75, Detroit 70: Adonys Henriquez notched 21 points and seven rebounds as the Knights ended a three-game losing streak with a victory over the visiting Titans.
Henriquez made 7-of-10 from the field and B.J. Taylor hit 6-of-12 for 18 points to lead a strong 50 percent shooting performance for UCF (6-4). Staphon Blair supplied 14 points on 4-of-4 shooting and converted 6-of-8 free throws off the bench for the Knights, who made 9-of-20 from beyond the arc.
Juwan Howard, Jr. registered 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting to pace Detroit (6-5), which shot 46.6 percent. Paris Bass added 11 points and six rebounds and Matthew Grant had eight points and four assists for the Titans.
UCF came out looking nothing like the team that went 16 minutes without a field goal against Florida Atlantic its last time out, knocking down three 3-pointers to take an early 11-2 lead. After a brief lull, during which the Titans gained a 19-14 edge on a triple by Howard, the hot shooting continued for the Knights, who went to the break with a 35-27 advantage.
The lead ballooned to 18 points early in the second half as Henriquez and Taylor hit from deep, but Howard's bucket started an 8-0 run that made it a 10-point game with 11 1/2 minutes remaining. The Titans kept fighting, finally making it a one possession game on Grant's basket with 29 seconds left, but the Knights made just enough free throws, including five straight by Brandon Goodwin, to escape with the win.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Henriquez and Taylor combined for 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, in the first half. ... Goodwin finished with nine points and Dylan Karell had a game-high five assists for UCF. ... Both teams finished with 28 rebounds and 15 assists.
