LSU 76, Sam Houston 67: Jordan Mickey had 21 points, a career-high 15 rebounds and four blocks as the host Tigers held off the Bearkats for their fourth straight win.

Keith Hornsby tallied 16 points and Jarell Martin added 14 points, nine boards, three assists and three blocks for LSU (7-2). The Tigers used a 19-9 advantage at the foul line and nine blocks to offset losing the battle on the glass for the first time this season (50-42) and won despite surrendering a season-high 23 offensive boards.

Jabari Peters hit four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points for Sam Houston (5-4), which had lost previous road games at UNLV and Texas A&M by a combined five points. Michael Holyfield contributed 10 points, a season-high 14 rebounds and four blocks for the Bearkats while Paul Baxter and Kaheem Ransom rounded out the double-digit scorers for Sam Houston with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

LSU took an early five-point edge less than four minutes into the contest, but Peters and Ransom combined for the final nine points of a 17-4 surge as the Bearkats built an eight-point cushion with 8:39 left in the first half. The Tigers trailed by seven just over two minutes later before a three-point play and two dunks from Mickey contributed to a half-ending 15-5 push that allowed LSU to take a three-point edge into the break.

The Tigers knocked down their first three 3-point attempts of the second half and took their first double-digit lead with 13:50 to go before Peters answered with consecutive triples, but back-to-back buckets from Hornsby and another dunk from Mickey kept the Tigers in front. Ransom’s jumper with 1:47 to go left Sam Houston down 66-62 before Tim Quarterman’s three-point play and seven free throws thereafter stretched the margin to 12 in the final half-minute.
