Maryland 70, North Carolina Central 56: Nick Faust came off the bench to score 19 points and grab nine rebounds as the Terrapins downed the visiting Eagles.
Dez Wells netted all 10 of his points in the first half for Maryland (9-5), which improved to 40-2 all-time against teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Evan Smotrycz added seven points to go along with seven rebounds for the Terrapins, who won the battle of the boards 43-28.
Jeremy Ingram came into the contest ranked third nationally in scoring but was held to a season-low 11 points on 4-of-19 shooting for North Carolina Central (7-4). Jordan Parks netted 10 points and Emanuel Chapman dished out a game-high eight assists for the Eagles, who made just 32.7 percent of their attempts from the field.
Jake Layman's 3-pointer keyed a 7-0 spurt that gave Maryland a 21-16 lead with under five minutes left in the first half. The Terrapins scored the final six points of the opening period to take a 28-20 edge into the break despite committing 11 turnovers.
Seth Allen sparked a 13-3 surge that stretched Maryland's advantage to 44-28 with under 14 minutes remaining. The Terrapins led by as much as 23 as they earned bragging rights in the first meeting between the two schools.
