Virginia 74, Virginia Tech 58: Freshman Evan Nolte hit five 3-pointers for a career-high 18 points as the visiting Cavaliers beat their rivals on the road for the third straight year.
Joe Harris added 17 points and had three 3-pointers during a big first-half run that helped the Cavaliers (13-5, 3-2 ACC ) build a 34-19 lead with two minutes left in the half.
Erick Green, the nation's leading scorer entering the night, had a career-high 35 points on 11-of-18 shooting for the Hokies (11-7, 2-3). The rest of the team went 8-of-25 for a combined 23 points.
The Cavaliers hit six 3-pointers during the 24-2 first-half run before Green finished the half with six straight points - including a buzzer-beating jumper that got Virginia Tech within 34-25.
The Cavaliers scored the first three points of the second half and Virginia Tech never got closer than 10 the rest of the way. Green hit a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 52-42 with 8:40 left but Nolte answered with a 3-pointer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia hit a season-high 11 3-pointers. It was the sixth time this season Virginia Tech has allowed at least 10 3-pointers. ... Green, who scored 20-plus points for the 16th time this season, also had a career-high nine rebounds. ... Virginia has held all five ACC opponents to less than 60 points.
