Southern California 70, UC Riverside 26: Jio Fontan and Eric Wise scored 14 points apiece as the host Trojans soundly defeated the cold-shooting Highlanders.

Fontan, a senior point guard who came into the game shooting 26.7 percent from the floor this season, made 5 of 6 shots while also contributing five rebounds and six assists for USC (4-6), which ended a five-game losing streak.

Riverside (2-8) shot 19 percent from the field (11-of-58) and flirted with the NCAA Division I record for lowest field-goal percentage in a game (13.3). Chris Harriel and Chris Patton scored six points apiece to lead Riverside.

The Highlanders missed 11 of their first 12 shots as USC sped to a 12-2 lead. The advantage swelled to 39-12 at the half as Riverside shot 5-for-29 (17.2 percent).

Riverside missed its first 13 field-goal attempts of the second half to dip its shooting percentage to 10.4. The Highlanders finally produced a second-half field goal with 5:38 remaining but by then trailed 57-16.

GAME NOTEBOOK: USC coach Kevin O’Neill moved 7-2 junior center Omar Oraby into the starting lineup in place of shooting guard J.T. Terrell, the team’s leading scorer (11.3). Dewayne Dedmon moved from center to power forward and Wise from power forward to small forward. Oraby, an off-season transfer from Rice, finished with seven points and eight rebounds. ... Terrell didn’t enter the game until the final minutes and scored five points. … USC had five turnovers in the first 6 1/2 minutes before finishing with 12.
