Quincy Miller scored 15 of his 20 points after halftime, and No. 12 Baylor used a strong second half to beat San Diego State 77-67 on Tuesday in Waco, Texas.

Miller, a freshman who was one of the top recruits in the nation, has now led the Bears (3-0) in scoring in each of his first three games.

Baylor led 32-30 after an ugly, turnover-filled first half, but it could’ve been a much bigger lead than that. The Aztecs closed the gap from 32-24 over the final two minutes of the half to get within striking distance at the break.

But Baylor, considered by many to be the favorite to win the Big 12 this season, came out of the gates blazing. Pierre Jackson connected with Deuce Bello for a fast-break alley-oop with 9:37 remaining, capping a 23-9 run to start the half and giving the Bears a 55-39 lead.

Seven minutes into the second half, San Diego State (3-1) had more turnovers (7) than points (4). The Aztecs were playing their fourth game in five days, and fatigue appeared to set in as the game wore on.

Chase Tapley had 28 points to lead San Diego State, which missed out on its second straight 4-0 start to a season. Jamaal Franklin, coming off a career-high 31 points against UC Davis, was held to 11.

Brady Heslip added 16 points, and Quincy Acy chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds for Baylor.

The two teams combined for 41 turnovers.
