Allen Crabbe scored 21 points and made five 3-pointers and No. 24 California ran off 23 unanswered points to cruise to a 81-54 victory over visiting George Washington in the Progressive CBE Classic.

The Golden Bears (2-0) scored the final 21 points of the first half as part of a 28-1 run that turned a close game into a blowout.

Justin Cobbs came off the bench to tally 16 points and Jorge Gutierrez scored 15 points for California, which shot 56 percent from the field and made 8 of 13 3-point attempts. Crabbe was 5 of 8 from behind the arc.

Tony Taylor had 20 points to pace George Washington (1-1).

Cal’s decisive run began after Taylor hit a 3-pointer to give George Washington a 19-18 lead with 6:21 left in the half.

Gutierrez hit two free throws to start the spurt and Cobbs scored eight points during the run as the Golden Bears took a 39-18 halftime lead. Gutierrez scored on a layup in the first minute of the second half to conclude the 23-0 splurge.

The Colonials missed their final 11 shots of the first half and first four of the second half and went 9 1/2 minutes between field goals until Taylor’s basket with just over 17 minutes remaining. George Washington shot 37.9 percent.

Crabbe, a sophomore, topped 20 points for the second straight game this season and eighth time in his career.
