Ramone Moore scored 17 points and Lavoy Allen collected 14 points and 12 rebounds as No. 25 Temple toppled visiting Big 5-rival St. Joseph’s, 66-52, on Sunday.
Juan Fernandez added 12 points and six assists for the Owls (21-5, 11-2 Atlantic 10), who have won eight straight to move one-half game behind Xavier for first place in the Atlantic 10.
Temple could solidify its case for an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday when it steps out of conference to visit No. 5 Duke.
The Owls took a two-point advantage and opened it up right before the half, closing with a 13-3 burst to seize a 35-23 lead into the locker room.
Moore and Fernandez each drained 3-pointers in the first two minutes of the second half to keep the double-digit edge. The Hawks did not get closer than eight points the rest of the way. Moore’s jumper with 4:48 left pushed it to 62-44 and put the game away.
Langston Galloway scored 17 points for St. Joe’s (7-19, 2-10).
