J’Covan Brown led the way with 23 points on 6-of-10 shooting as No. 11 Texas picked up its first victory ever at Phog Allen Fieldhouse, 74-63, over No. 2 Kansas on Saturday.

Jordan Hamilton added 17 points and nine rebounds for the Longhorns (16-3, 4-0 Big 12), who outscored the Jayhawks 51-28 in the second half.

The loss snapped Kansas’ 69-game winning streak at Phog Allen Fieldhouse. Tyrel Reed scored 17 points and Marcus Morris 16 for Kansas in a physical game that had several flareups between players.

Texas missed its first four shots and committed three turnovers in the first four minutes as Kansas shot out to a 10-0 lead. The Longhorns would make only one field goal in the first eight minutes, allowing the Jayhawks (18-1, 3-1) to push the edge to 18-3. They would recover a bit but still went into the break down, 35-23.

The second half was a completely different story, as Kansas made two field goals in the first 11 minutes and Texas climbed back into it. Brown’s second 3-pointer in a row at the 11:36 mark gave Texas its first lead, 45-44.

The lead would grow to as much as 61-49 with 4:24 left before the Jayhawks made one last push, closing to within five points with 1:39 left. But the Longhorns were too strong down the stretch, handing Kansas its first loss of the season and jumping into the driver’s seat in the Big 12.
