Nobody believes Texas Christian is ready to play in the Big East Conference, at least not yet.
But since announcing it would join the basketball powerhouse conference in 2012, TCU has shown promise in defeating a Pac-10 and a Big 12 school.
The latter came Wednesday when the Frogs held on for a wild 81-77 victory over Texas Tech in Lubbock.
TCU (7-3) had a 78-71 lead with 56 seconds left, but Texas Tech (5-5) scored six straight to pull within one 78-77 with 21 seconds left.
Texas Tech fouled guard Ronnie Moss, who made one of two free throws. With a chance to tie or take the lead, Red Raiders guard Mike Singletary missed a 3-pointer. Moss went to the line again with 10 seconds left, and made both free throws.
Earlier in the half, the Frogs had their own rally. TCU trailed 43-35 with 18:33 left, but went on a 9-0 run to take the lead with 15:18 to go. The Frogs later went on a 14-2 run to take a 62-49 lead with 9:09 left.
Sammy Yeager scored 22 points, while Moss had 16 for TCU, which defeated Southern Cal 81-69 Nov. 29.
Singletary scored a team-high 19 points and Brad Reese had 16 for Texas Tech.
