Purdue' Ja’Juan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore made sure the Big Ten won this year’s challenge with the Atlantic Coast Conference.
A basket by Johnson with 1:30 to go in overtime put Purdue ahead to stay, and Moore sank two free throws in the final 23 seconds as the Boilermakers knocked off Virginia Tech 58-55, Wednesday at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va.
The Boilermakers' victory was the Big Ten's sixth in this year's edition of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and clinched bragging rights for the conference for a second straight season.
Purdue (6-1) led 25-21 at halftime, but Virginia Tech battled back and took a 51-49 lead with 21 seconds remaining. The Boilermakers needed a basket by Johnson with 11 seconds remaining to force overtime.
Johnson finished with 29 points and five rebounds for Purdue, and Moore had 14 points.
Jeff Allen’s paced Virginia Tech (4-3( with 14 points and nine rebounds.
