Kansas head coach Bill Self has taken to calling Markieff and Marcus Morris “the twins.”
A
lot separated the two last season, as Marcus started 33 of the
Jayhawks’ 36 games and finished third in scoring at 12.8 points per
game. Markieff was sixth at 6.8
but had to wait until this season to start regularly.
The twins powered Kansas to an 82-41 win over Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan.
Thomas
Robinson came off the bench to lead the Jayhawks with 15 points, but
Marcus and Markieff led all starters with 12 and nine points,
respectively.
This
was an expected win, but it came against an Islanders (1-4) team that
played close against Oklahoma State earlier this season. The Cowboys
gave Kansas its only
Big 12 Conference loss last season.
Marcus
and Markieff spurred the Jayhawks on Wednesday. Marcus nailed a jump
shot that gave Kansas a 23-11 lead at the 7:43 mark in the first half.
His brother provided
a slam dunk to extend that lead, and the rout was on.
From there, the Jayhawks posted a 17-6 run to give them a commanding 42-17 halftime lead.
The
second half wasn’t much better for the Islanders, who were led in
scoring by Justin Reynolds, Demond Watt and Jaamon Echols at seven
points apiece.
