James Harden scored 26 points and Chandler Parsons added 23 as visiting Houston topped Golden State.

Dwight Howard went 5-of-6 from the field, including a successful 3-point attempt, and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line for 18 points while adding 11 rebounds for the Rockets, who improved to 6-1 in their last seven against the Warriors. Patrick Beverley contributed 16 points for Houston.

David Lee collected 23 points and 10 rebounds while Harrison Barnes (20 and 12) and Andrew Bogut (10 and 11) each joined with double-doubles for Golden State. Stephen Curry scored 20 points and Marreese Speights recorded a season-high 16 points and nine boards off the bench as the Warriors dropped to 7-3 at home.

The Rockets took an 82-73 lead into the fourth before Golden State went to the inside with Speights and Bogut combining for 10 points during a 12-2 burst. Speights’ 18-foot jumper gave the Warriors a 91-90 lead with 6:35 left but Harden scored five straight to put Houston back on top.

Curry’s deep 3-pointer knotted it at 96 with 4:52 to play and it was tied again at 98 before Harden found Parsons for a basket and Howard connected on a three-point play to make it at 103-98 gap with 2:15 left. Curry’s jumper made it a one-possession game again but Beverley scored on two straight possessions to help put it away.

Curry and Thompson each failed to hit a 3-pointer through the first three quarters for the first time this season but the Warriors stayed in the game with their strength on the interior. They built up a 27-17 advantage on the glass in the first half but still went into the break trailing 58-51.

Draymond Green’s 3-pointer pulled Golden State within 69-65 with 5:01 left in the third but Omri Casspi and Francisco Garcia knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers for the Rockets to push it back to double figures. Speights’ tip cut it back to single digits heading to the fourth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hall of Famer Bernard King had his No. 30 retired by the Warriors at halftime. … Houston coach Kevin McHale missed his second straight game following the death of his mother. Assistant Kelvin Sampson took over. … Lee has scored in double figures in 100 straight games - the third longest current streak behind LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
