Pistons 113, Wizards 102: Greg Monroe scored 24 points and pulled down 16 rebounds as host Detroit took down Washington in the season opener for each side.

Josh Smith added 19 points in his Pistons' debut and Will Bynum totaled 19 points, five assists and two steals as Detroit won a season opener for the first time in its last four tries. The Pistons dominated the Wizards down low, outscoring Washington 56-28 in the paint.

Trevor Ariza led all scorers with 28 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range for Washington. John Wall added 20 points, 11 assists and three steals for the Wizards, who have not won a season opener since 2009.

Washington silenced the home crowd early, as a Nene 15-footer followed by Ariza's first 3-pointer of the game staked the Wizards to a 5-0 lead after a raucous introduction for the host Pistons. But Wall and Bradley Beal combined for just 1-of-10 shooting out of the Washington backcourt in the first quarter while Detroit warmed up, shooting 52.2 percent in the opening frame to begin to take control of the ballgame.

After the Pistons took a 55-43 lead into halftime, Washington fell behind by as many as 15 early in the third quarter before closing to trail by eight to enter the final stanza. The Wizards made a game of it late, pulling to within four points when Marcin Gortat tipped in Ariza's miss at the 7:43 mark but Chauncey Billups knocked down a pair of key 3-pointers to re-establish a double-digit lead to help Detroit ice the game down the stretch.
