Chase Budinger added 15 points for the Timberwolves, who won for only the 11th time on the road and notched their first victory at San Antonio since 2004. Ricky Rubio and Greg Stiemsma chipped in with 12 points each as Minnesota finished its ninth straight season without a playoff appearance.

Tim Duncan collected 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Spurs, who will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday in the first round of the playoffs. Gary Neal contributed 17 points and Tony Parker had 15 for the Spurs, who made all 22 of their free throws.

Williams made a layup and assisted on J.J. Barea’s 3-pointer to push the lead to seven early in the fourth quarter and Budinger drained another 3-pointer with 6:44 left as Minnesota led 97-84. The Spurs could not get closer than 10 the rest of the way.

The Timberwolves made five 3-pointers in the first quarter – three by Rubio – and led by as many as nine before settling for a 30-24 lead. San Antonio scored 10 straight to move in front 50-46 before Parker recorded his team’s last 11 points of the second quarter for a 61-56 advantage at intermission.
