Paul Pierce hit a 3-pointer to help force the third overtime and picked up his second triple-double of the season with 27 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists for the Celtics. Kevin Garnet scored the first six points of the third overtime and finished with 20 points and 18 rebounds while Jeff Green, whose 3-pointer forced the second overtime, added 17 points.

Ty Lawson collected 29 points and nine assists and Danilo Gallinari added 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Nuggets had their nine-game winning streak come to an end.

Denver took its first lead of the game at 90-89 on Lawson’s jumper with 1:43 left in regulation, but Nuggets center JaVale McGee was called for a technical foul just after the hoop and Terry’s free throw tied it at 90. Green came in after a timeout and buried a 16-foot jumper from the right baseline to put Boston back on top.

The Celtics looked like they had it locked up when Kenneth Faried missed two free throws with 3.6 seconds left in regulation, but officials ruled the ball went out of bounds on Boston after consulting replay. Lawson hit a runner with 0.8 seconds left to send it to overtime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Nuggets F Andre Iguodala left the game with a right cervical strain and did not return. … Denver was trying to reach 10 straight wins for the first time since 2005. … The Celtics have not lost since All-Star G Rajon Rondo went down for the season with torn knee ligaments.
