Mavericks 105, Trail Blazers 99: O.J. Mayo scored 28 points and host Dallas shut down Portland in the fourth quarter.

Vince Carter returned from a one-game absence to score 17 points as the Mavericks gave coach Rick Carlisle his 500th win and avenged a loss to the Trail Blazers eight days ago in which they blew a 21-point lead.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 27 points and 10 rebounds and Wesley Matthews scored 21 for Portland, which scored only four points in the first eight minutes of the fourth quarter to snap its modest two-game winning streak.

The Trail Blazers led by as many as 12 points in the second quarter and went ahead 80-72 with 73 seconds left in the third quarter when Aldridge scored eight points in a 10-0 spurt. Jae Crowder and Carter buried 3-pointers to cut Dallas' deficit to 82-80 entering the fourth.

After Portland took its last lead at 84-83, Carter and Shawn Marion hit 3-pointers in a 12-2 surge to push the lead to nine. Aldridge sparked a 6-0 run that cut the deficit to three before Carter nailed a jumper from the left wing with 26.9 seconds left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dirk Nowitzki scored 16 points and Shawn Marion added 13 and 10 boards for Dallas, which had a 46-42 edge on the glass after being outrebounded 94-77 in two earlier meetings with Portland. ... Trail Blazers rookie Damian Lillard finished with 19 points, but he managed only four free throws in the second half. ... Mayo has lit up Portland for 75 points on 28-for-41 shooting in three games this season.
