Thunder 87, Trail Blazers 83: Kevin Durant scored 13 of his 33 points in the third quarter and shorthanded Oklahoma City fought off a late charge by host Portland to earn its third straight win.

The Trail Blazers cut a 10-point deficit down to one in the final seconds but J.J. Hickson missed a go-ahead layup attempt and LaMarcus Aldridge failed to connect from 19 feet with 1.7 seconds left before Russell Westbrook put the game away with a pair of free throws. Aldridge finished with 33 points and 11 rebounds to lead Portland.

Westbrook struggled to 18 points on 5-of-21 shooting but chipped in nine assists and eight rebounds while DeAndre Liggins scored 11 points in a rare start for the Thunder, who were missing starters Serge Ibaka (chest contusion) and Thabo Sefolosha (neck).

Westbrook went 3-for-14 in the first half as Portland snuck a 43-42 lead into the break. Westbrook focused on getting his teammates shots in the third quarter and assisted on early buckets by Durant and Nick Collison as Oklahoma City grabbed the lead.

The Thunder went up by as many as 11 points in the third and took a 68-59 lead into the final quarter when Durant buried a jumper as time expired in the period. Westbrook’s 3-pointer with 3:34 left in the game made it an 84-74 lead before the Blazers chipped away.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Oklahoma City recalled C Daniel Orton and F Perry Jones III from the D-League to fill in for Ibaka and Sefolosha. … The Blazers struggled to 36 percent shooting overall and went 6-of-21 from 3-point range. … Nicolas Batum was the only other player to reach double figures for Portland with 21 points. Rookie Damian Lillard, who went for 37 points on Friday, was held to nine on 3-of-14 shooting.
