Triston McKenzie yielded one run and two hits while pitching into the eighth, and Jose Ramirez clubbed a three-run homer as the Cleveland Indians beat the visiting Los Angeles Angels 5-1 on Saturday.

After taking a perfect game into the eighth inning at Detroit last weekend, McKenzie (3-5) was nearly as good Saturday. He retired 10 straight batters at one point and struck out eight before being lifted with nobody out in the eighth after issuing his only walk of the day.

McKenzie also fanned Angels star Shohei Ohtani three times in the contest.

Ramirez, one of five Indians with at least two hits, provided more than enough offense for McKenzie with his blast in the third. Amed Rosario recorded three hits with an RBI for Cleveland, which has taken the first two of this three-game set.

The Angels, who totaled four hits during Friday's 9-1 series-opening defeat, managed just three Saturday and scored their lone run on Jo Adell's fielder's choice in the eighth. Los Angeles, 3-3 on a 10-game road stretch, has dropped four in a row to Cleveland this season.

After having a runner thrown out at the plate and leaving the bags loaded in the first, Cleveland finally broke through against Angels starter Reid Detmers in the third. Myles Straw (2-for-5) and Rosario opened the frame with consecutive singles, and Ramirez followed with his drive that landed well into the left-field bleachers for a 3-0 Indians' lead.

Those were the only runs allowed by the rookie Detmers (1-3), plus seven hits, three walks and four strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings.

Rosario added some insurance with his seventh home run of the season in the seventh. Bradley Zimmer came through with a sacrifice fly later in the frame.

The Angels and Indians will conclude this series Sunday night at Williamsport, Pa., in the MLB Little League Classic.
