Madison Bumgarner tossed a season-high eight solid innings and contributed an RBI single to lift the host Arizona Diamondbacks past the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 and complete a three-game sweep on Thursday.

Nick Ahmed and Josh VanMeter each doubled and drove in two runs and Christian Walker had two hits and an RBI for the Diamondbacks.

Bumgarner (7-7) allowed three hits and one run with five strikeouts and one walk.

Ronald Torreyes and Luke Williams had two hits apiece for the struggling Phillies, who dropped their fourth in a row.

Phillies starter Zack Wheeler, a legitimate National League Cy Young Award candidate coming into the game, gave up seven hits and six runs in 6 2/3 innings. Wheeler (10-8) struck out seven and walked one.

Wheeler retired the first 11 Diamondbacks before David Peralta doubled with two outs in the fourth inning. Walker followed with a bloop single to right, scoring Peralta for a 1-0 lead.

Jean Segura led off the game with a double for the Phillies. The next baserunner didn't reach until Didi Gregorius was hit by a pitch with one out in the fifth. Williams walked with two outs, but Wheeler struck out looking to end the threat.

The Phillies went down in order once again in the seventh and had just one hit through the first seven innings.

Walker doubled to begin the bottom of the seventh and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Daulton Varsho. Drew Ellis reached first on a bizarre play as he grounded to Torreyes at third. Torreyes appeared to have an out, but Walker eluded the tag and dove back safely. Ahmed followed with a two-run double to left on an 0-2 pitch by Wheeler for a 3-0 advantage.

Bumgarner added an RBI single on a broken bat for a 4-0 lead. VanMeter doubled and knocked in two more runs for a commanding six-run advantage.

Segura hit an RBI groundout in the eighth and Torreyes added an RBI single in the ninth for the Phillies. They loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Travis Jankowski struck out looking. Segura grounded out to end the game.
