Jarred Kelenic homered and drove in four runs and fellow rookie Logan Gilbert won his fifth consecutive decision as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Texas Rangers 9-5 Friday night in Arlington, Texas.

Adolis Garcia, Jonah Heim and Jason Martin hit solo homers for the Rangers, who lost for the 14th time in their past 15 games.

Gilbert (5-2) cruised through the first three innings before running into trouble his second time through the order. He wound up allowing four runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings with one walk and six strikeouts.

After Gilbert took losses in each of his first two outings, the Mariners have won the past 11 times the right-hander has taken the mound.

Rangers left-hander Kolby Allard (2-9) allowed multiple baserunners in each of his three innings. He was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Mariners scored four times off Allard in the second inning and added three more in the third to take a 7-0 lead.

Seattle's Abraham Toro, who went 3-for-5, led off the second with a double. Tom Murphy walked and Kelenic lined a single to right to load the bases.

Dylan Moore walked to bring home the first run, and J.P. Crawford knocked in another with a groundout. Mitch Haniger then hit a grounder to shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who went home in an attempt to get Kelenic. However, the throw was behind the runner and went all the way to the backstop, allowing two runs to score.

Luis Torrens led off the third with a double, Toro reached on an infield single, and an out later, Kelenic hit a three-run shot to right field, the third homer of his career.

Garcia led off the sixth with a 430-foot shot into the second deck in left field to pull the Rangers within 7-3. With two outs, Heim lined a homer over the right field wall, ending Gilbert's night.

Martin hit a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh off Drew Steckenrider.

Diego Castillo, making his Mariners debut after being acquired earlier in the week from Tampa Bay, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.
