Corey Seager and A.J. Pollock each hit home runs in a seven-run fourth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a 12-5 victory Friday to remain perfect this season against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers are not only 7-0 against the Rockies at home, they are 14-3 against them this year with two games remaining in the season series this weekend.
Clayton Kershaw (15-5) recovered from a slow start to earn the victory as the Dodgers reduced their magic number to three for clinching the best record in the National League.
Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning for the Rockies, who lost their third consecutive game. It was the fourth time in his past six starts Kershaw has given up a first-inning home run.
The Dodgers left-hander gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings with one walk and five strikeouts. He has given up a career-high 28 home runs this season, with 10 of those coming in the opening inning.
Rockies rookie starter Peter Lambert (3-7), a Los Angeles-area native, gave up five runs on six hits over three-plus innings with one walk and three strikeouts in his third appearance at Dodger Stadium. He has an 11.93 ERA against the Dodgers this season.
Trailing 4-1, the Dodgers opened their big fourth inning with a leadoff home run from Seager, his 17th. Will Smith, Enrique Hernandez and Max Muncy had RBI singles before Pollock closed the outburst with a three-run homer, his 15th, for an 8-4 lead.
The seven-run inning tied a season-high for the Dodgers. The bottom of the fourth inning took 41 minutes to play.
Muncy had two RBIs in a four-run seventh inning as the Dodgers set a Los Angeles record with 844 runs scored. The Dodgers improved to 99-55, two games behind the Houston Astros for best record in baseball.
Justin Turner walked as a pinch hitter in the seventh for the Dodgers, his first appearance since Sept. 7 because of a sprained left ankle. Garrett Hampson and Sam Hilliard added home runs for the Rockies.
